Thank you Geoffrey. Yes i could proceed only setting ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_HOME, PATH, and ORACLE_SID. If i want to use oraenv to run to set the enviorenment then we have to consider oratab.

The oratab file should be taken care by the OUI root.sh script and I don't think you have to do anything to it.
From my past upgrade experience on Solaris and Enterprise Linux, you only need to make sure ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_HOME, and ORACLE_SID is correct and point to 11g then you can run through the upgrade script without any issues.

Hi All
I am going to upgrade from 10.2 to 11.2
Before start upgrade according to the oracle Note 837570.1 step 28 (2) i have to set the ORACLE_HOME in /etc oratab file in my red Hat Linux server.
I have already installed grid Infrastructure as well as Orcel 11.2 software. When i check /etc/oratab, it already set to my grid home.
My doubt is before startup for upgrade should i change this /etc/oratab entry to my Oracle software home and remove grid home ?
or
can i ignore existing oratab setting by $ export ORACLE_HOME=/data01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1 and do my upgrade.
What i understood is if i run .oraenv at the command prompt before start upgrade then only /etc/oratab setting will effect otherwise it will not set any enviorenemnt and i have to set them manually through export ORACLE_HOME command. So any seetings in /etc/oratab will not affect to upgrade. Is this understanding is correct??
Appriciate any comments
Regards
Karunika
