Security

This location is shown only to members

The databases we work with contain information who's security is vital to our employers and their clients and partners. This Meetup starts by identifying risks we need to be prepared for, followed by how security intersects with DBA responsibilities

We work with databases, and more importantly DATA, every day. Those databases may have YOUR personal information on. At a minimum they have data that is important to the functions of the business.

What do we need to think about in the area of security. What are the risks, how can they be mitigated ? The Sony breach, the cracking of the RockYou passwords, Facebook.

The responsibilities of the DBA are the focus for the second part.

There'll be time for a 'round table' at the end for people to bring up any issues they think worth addressing.

If anyone has questions before the event, feel free to circulate them. If we don't have the answers locally, we can reach out to those with more expertise.

There were 2 excellent and entertaining presentations. Both raised very important and topical issues that often go under the radar. There was also room for some interesting side discussion which worked really well. Well done Andrew, Gary and Yury.
