SOM #4 is about Oracle backup and recovery. As usual, Pizza and drinks arrive at 5:30PM and we start the presentation at 6PM. We should be out by 8:30PM with optional post-event program. It's Friday night in the end!

This time we will have more informal presentation. We will start with review of the backup options for Oracle databases and see who is using what in the audience and drill into the details most interesting areas, rules of thumb (aka best practices), where are the challenges and what's the real world experience we all have.

In the second plan we are planning to focus on Data Guard and how we use it - what works and what doesn't in the real life.

    •  I posed some questions and it was great not only to get answers, but to listen to everyone else's experience. A very good session.
    •  Positive: there was a real discussion. People shared their experience and opinions. Negative: It was a bit stuffy there :-). A session was very intensive and I think a break needs to be longer.

Running ad-hoc style meetup was brilliant idea and I think it went really well. Perhaps, we should be less hardcore and do a break instead of going straight for 3+ hours but it was informal anyway so no problem to wander around.
    •  It was a good general overview of the right approach to be taken working on Backup & Recovery solutions (RTO, RPO, Recovery Windows, options available today etc). I did expect a bit more technical discussion on the particular areas like Data Guard, RMAN, etc. I would suggest to organizing an addtional events on Backups & Recovery dedicated to the particular solution starting from RMAN, Data Guard, etc. This would allow to exchange with experience on how a particular solution is implemented in one or another case.
    •  I really enjoyed this session. It was good to see hear the comments and experience of other people. It was very valuable for me.
